Elefante's Origin Story: A Founder's Tale

The beginning

In September of 2007, I moved from my beloved Mexico to Canada. I arrived with two suitcases, a heavy accent, and ambition for the future. Little did I know that I would end up staying and making Canada my home. Fast-forward to today, and I’m proud to call myself a Mexican-Canadian, I've had the pleasure of meeting wonderful people, working with incredible organizations, starting a family, and now I’m on the brink of ticking off a big item from my bucket list - starting my own company.

Since I began my 15+ years professional journey, my constant need to seek out opportunities to further my learning and career growth has taken me through various roles: from my very first job in Canada- selling jewelry at the iconic Hudson's Bay to selling hotel rooms + weddings + Corporate events Marriott Hotels, photocopiers and software Konica Minolta Business Solutions Canada, professional services PwC Canada and McLennan Ross LLP, and most recently, telemedicine services at Dialogue. At each of these organizations, I have had the privilege of learning a great deal about Sales, Marketing, Leadership, and Strategy, and I’ve had the support of amazing mentors and colleagues who have helped me get to where I’m today.

Throughout my career, I have been incredibly fortunate to collaborate with many entrepreneurs. Some of them have become my customers some others my close friends and all of them have inspired and motivated me to pursue my own entrepreneurial dream.

Took a leap of faith

After years of dreaming of creating a business with a positive local impact, I finally took the plunge and left my comfort zone a few months ago. That's when a couple of Small to Medium-sized Businesses (SMBs) contacted me, asking if I could provide Sales and Marketing Strategy advice on a part-time basis.

When I first started out, I didn't intend to launch my own business. I figured I could take on some short-term projects while I decided what was next for me. However, as soon as I started working with my clients, I quickly realized how much of a positive impact my skills could make. I also learned that fractional roles are the only way some of these SMBs can overcome the budgetary constraints that often prevent them from tapping into the best available talent.

Working with SMBs as a Fractional Sales + Marketing Executive has given me the opportunity to use my skills and make a positive impact, while allowing me to have the flexibility to spend quality time with my family. As a working mom of two young daughters, I understand the importance of finding the right balance between furthering my career and being with my loved ones. I have seen first-hand the effects of burnout, and I want to be able to provide other professionals with the opportunity to achieve a better work-life integration.

An Elefante was born

And that is how I started Elefante On-Demand Sales + Marketing with the goal of helping companies achieve their growth goals while providing Sales + Marketing professionals with an alternative working arrangement that enables better work-life integration.

And now you are probably thinking- Why Elefante? well, Elefantes (Elephants in Spanish) are wise, have large brains, big hearts and are excellent listeners and I think these attributes are key to the work we do.

I am very excited to bring this new approach to the market as SMBs are a major driving force of economic prosperity. According to Stats Canada, SMBs account for 98.1% of all businesses in Canada and employ a whopping 9.7 million individuals so the opportunity to make an impact is right in front of us.
